I got this crazy idea involving cameras for a song I’ve been working on and that’s inspired me to move beyond my usual conventions for this next album. Through and through the guitar is my airship (dirigible, if you will) of choice when it comes to navigating the world of music but as of late I have become a little more versatile. Sequencers, Atari’s and Reason dominated my last release and that shows no signs of shaking for the foreseeable future but I do plan on adding a vast majority more to the Curious Quail arsenal.

While the instrumentation may get a little wonky and experimental, I will say here and now that never will I move in the direction of “prog rock”. I write pop music, and anyone who says otherwise is trying to be polite because they think ‘pop’ is somehow a detrimental term to the musicians creative process.

Not that every song has to be verse / chorus / verse / chorus / bridge / chorus, but I’m going to shy away from mid-song time signature changes and the entirety of notions embraced by King Crimson. I enjoy them. I don’t enjoy writing like them.

Here’s where I babble about song selections.

The Album has a working title, (which will not be the actual name of the album in any form whatsoever; continuously referring to it as ‘the full-length’ is pissing me off) Albatross. Sticking with the bird theme there, if you noticed.

So. Albatross will consist of no less than 13 tracks. None of said tracks will be from The GLOW, and two of them will be featured on Ostrich. (Which is the working title of the acoustic EP, got me?)

This is not, however, a blog post about blogging enough. Clicking the “blog” category just reminded me of the false promises I make to this site on a semi-consistent basis.

A full length album is underway, as well as a (most likely) online-only acoustic / stripped down EP. The goal with the stripped down is to release new and reworked material with ease of production and manufacturing costs. Two songs from the Full-length, which won’t have been released yet, two songs from The GLOW and one or two otherwise unreleased songs; haven’t decided what exactly.
