Bittersweet Victory
I am not surprised by the results of California Proposition 8. I am sickened, but I am not at all surprised.
On the other hand, watching the first non-white individual accept the mantle of President-Elect of the United States ran some chills all over. There are political reasons for days as to why tonight was fantastic, but it’s heartwarming (as a person of mixed race) to see our country take steps to move beyond the skin’s colour. Maybe Vincent’s right, in 50 years we’ll be over the homophobia as well?
Congrats, friends. It’s an exciting time we live in, and I’m keeping my November 5th, 2008 copy of the New York Times to show to my grandchildren.
