The Visit
He smiles he sees my familar face
escorted through the padded doors
He’s got a look about him like he’s been up for five days,
Tryin to figure out what this Visit’s for
I’m sure that
He thinks this time
is just a game and
I try my best
to keep it straight and
I know my face
Always gives me away.
Truth be told, I didn’t ask for this
I’m just the guy who knows him best
Like the bearer of bad news gone amiss
It’s a feeling we can all attest
and
He thinks this time
Is just a game and
asks why I’m here
Lookin’ afraid and
I know my shakes
Will always give me away
See his appeal is non existant now
all his hopes are six feet down and
I’m to blame
I break it to him clean and square
He’s silent for a moment there and then
Explodes
You’ve never lived till you heard a dead man cry
or curl up tight and scream out, “WHY?”
and you’re forced to watch
Then he says something I don’t understand
A secret about his big plan
and I thought that he would let me in but his voice
says otherwise
I know this time
It’s not a game and
He says that I
Should be the one afraid and
I don’t know why,
but I believe he’s right.
